Abstract

The authors consider the role and place of the course «Academic writing» in the system of higher
education disciplines of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The concept of academic writing in the modern system of
higher education is no longer associated exclusively with the teaching of a foreign language, as it is integrated
into the system of general language training of Russian / Kazakh language and becomes the basis for the
formation of research competence of the student. The article describes the main approaches to the development
of the discipline «Academic writing»: the principles of its theoretical foundation and methodology; the aim and
objectives of the course. In conclusion, the authors justify mainstreaming in the Kazakh educational system.
Moreover, the discipline has its impact on the quality of professional training of students and makes contribution
to the competitiveness of Kazakhstani education.
