Proverbs and sayings are essential for specialists in linguistics, history, ethnography, psychology,
folklore and other sciences. It is of particular interest to linguists, since this genre of folklore reveals a significant
layer of archaic phenomena characteristic of the ancient state of the language and lost in the process of its
development. The language of Kazakh Proverbs and sayings is a fertile object of research for linguistics. And
this is not surprising, because the word as a language unit reflects the grammatical structure of the language,
and Proverbs have preserved in their composition a lot and variety of relics of the ancient grammatical and
lexical system. Therefore, outdated words in proverbs and sayings require a comprehensive study. Without a
complete study and systematic description of the linguistic features of proverbs and sayings, which are fixed
lexical and grammatical norms of the national language, it is impossible to identify historical patterns and
leading trends in the formation of the literary language. This article examines the origin of some archaisms
found in Proverbs and sayings of the Kazakh language. Assumptions about the reasons for the obsolescence of
some words are presented. Studying the etymology of archaic lexical units in the Kazakh language. The authors
conclude that proverbs and sayings are characterized by archaisms and to determine their origin, it is necessary
to consider extralinguistic factors.
