On Implicitness of Nominal Grammatical Categories

In contrast to the traditional representation of the grammatical level of the form-tocontent language, which dominates the academic grammars of the Russian language, in terms of modern
approaches to the analysis of grammatical phenomena from the perspective of human thinking, the direction
of research “from meaning to form” seems more promising.
The purpose of this article is to consider and describe ethnonyms in the Russian language,
characterized by the heterogeneity of nominative units. The study is devoted to the problem of variability in
the composition of grammatical categories, therefore, we are primarily interested in those names in which
various kinds of semantic and grammatical processes occur that lead to the formation of word-formation,
morphological and syntactic variants, that is, words that first of all need normalization and codification
