Abstract

The article deals with representation of one of the topical problems –gender
relations in literature. Special attention in the gender study was paid to research of masculinity
based on Kazakh and American literature. It was analyzed whether male images in realistic literary
works correspond to universal masculine stereotypes that are widely spread and stick with people.
As a result, it turned out that the characteristics of American and Kazakh men, their differences
in masculine stereotypes are associated with factors such as mentality, culture, history, politics,
religion and national philosophy.
