The article demonstrates an ethno-semantic analysis of the cultural and social features of ancient
and modern events. Kazakh holidays refer to a solemn event held with the participation of many people from
near and distant villages and districts. The person who held the feast intends to receive the blessing of the
public. Due to the fact that at the beginning of the wedding it is necessary to make a sacrifice and ask for support
from the ancestors, thereby warn against the destructive actions of the aruak (spirits), mystical forces. Events
such as shіldekhana, besik toi, sundet toi, occupy the main place in Kazakh life, and important events such as
a wedding associated with kyz uzatu, marriage, as well as events such as saban toi, kymyzmuryndyk, biye akytu, kyek alu, kyrman kandau, shashyratky beru are communal and refer to large and small events related
to the collective economic cycle. For the wedding, which is often held in summer jailau, messengers are sent in
advance, singers-kuyshi, akyns, wrestlers are invited, baiga is announced and the games such as kokpar, kyz
kuu, tenge ilu (kumis alu), zhamby atu, zhorga salu and other competitive events are organized. In this regard,
everyone tries not to miss entertainments, events. People come to the events mainly for entertainment, to cheer
up. The article provides an ethnosemantic analysis of the cultural and social characteristics of old weddings and
modern weddings.
