Abstract

The article explores semantics of proverbs and the regularities of translation solutions in the process of their translation into Russian and English, which determines the relevance of this study. The aim of the study is to analyse and determine the level of effectiveness in the process of translation of proverbs into Russian and English on the material of Saken Zhunusov’s story ‘Zamanai Men Amanai’, which raises issues of social and humanistic nature. The authors systematized proverbs excerpted from the text of the story and determined the most optimal variants of their translation. In addition, the pragmatic problems of translation, degree of cultural adaptation and preservation of equivalence in translation are analyzed. The study was conducted using the method of classification and stratification, comparative analysis of the original and translated texts. As a result of the study, the factors that influence the translator in the process of choosing his translation strategy in order to achieve pragmatic equivalence were identified. The results of this study can be used to assess  quality of translation solutions in the process of fiction translation from Kazakh into Russian and English at drawing up methodical recommendations and textbooks in the field of fiction translation and comparative linguistics.
