Аdequacy of translating realia into other languages (based on Smagul Yelubay’s novel «Ak boz uy» and its translations in the Russian and English languages)

While choosing correct translation devices for translating realia into other languages
or while analyzing the quality of realia translations, the requirements that translators or critics take into
account are solely directed at preserving national and historic color. However, to provide the realia
translation adequacy one must consider not only the denotative meaning, but also functions of the realia
in the original. Realia in fiction have descriptive, symbolic, associative, emotial and expressive functions.
This article identifies the functions of the national realia in S.Yelubay’s novel ‘Ak Boz Uy’, and analyzes
the adequacy of its translations in the Russian and English languages. The adequate translation of realia
functions provides for translation pragmatics
