The article analyzes the peculiarities of translation of Kazakh hair jewelry
“sholpy” that has linguistic-cultural valuefor the Kazakh language and culture.
The analysis of the functional significance of the jewelry “sholpy” in the works of Kazakh
writers and the peculiarities has been done its translation into other languages (Russian, English)
has been done. From ancient times hair jewelry “sholpy” protected its owner from evil spirits. In
the Kazakh world view the hair jewelry “sholpy” is valuable not only forits material significance.
The value of the analyzed jewelry isconnected, first of all, to its belonging to a person andsocial
status. The analysis of empirical data shows that in the Kazakh national world view, in folklore
and literature, hair jewelry “sholpy” is a symbol of female beauty and tenderness. The article
illustrates the peculiarities of translation of women’s hair jewelry “sholpy” into Russian and
English and the methods used in the translation.
