. In the context of new requirements for language training in educational institutions of
different levels, an attempt was made to consider the features of the semantic perception of the text in
the context of academic discourse. In the context of modernization of the goals and objectives of modern
Kazakhstani secondary education, the relevance and scientific and methodological significance of the
study of academic discourse are indisputable. Attention to the personality of the student as an active
subject of the educational process puts forward new requirements for language training, which is the
reason for the need for a multidimensional study of the specifics of the cognitive and communicative
activity of the student, the features of mastering knowledge and their exteriorization in the conditions of
academic discourse. The process of interaction between academic discourse and individual consciousness
through text decoding is most clearly manifested at the lexical level in the form of students’ perception of
new educational information. In the article, this process is explored by applying the supplement technique
in identifying the specifics of perception and individual interpretation of the proposed text within the
academic discourse. The texts were selected according to the program material of textbooks for Grades 5
and 11. The paper presents the results of experimental data on three types of texts: scientific, journalistic
and colloquial styles. The experimental material is analyzed not only from the point of view of the specific
perception of texts of different styles, but also from the point of view of various subjective variables in the
form of personal beliefs, emotions, attitudes.
