Today, toponyms, in addition to symbolic activities that provide the
necessary guidelines for the life of the country, have great socio-political significance and come to
the fore with national, cognitive characteristics. Because toponyms appear, live and serve only in
human society, and cannot remain outside of the changes taking place in this society. Over time,
these changes will become history. The events of yesterday are the history of today. The toponyms
of the Kazakh people make it known about the centuries-old history of the people, leads the history
of our country to very early periods. For this reason, the study of the names of lands and waters is
becoming one of the current problems associated with the change, oblivion of many toponyms in
different historical periods that have passed in our country. Since toponyms are the source of
historical monuments of the people, the study of the features of the toponymic system from ancient
Turkic to the present day, historical and etymological analysis is one of the urgent problems. The
study of Kazakh toponics in the context of Turkic identity will modernize the unique historical
model of nomadic civilization, as well as strengthen the overall Turkic integration. Paying attention
to common toponyms in Kazakh and other Turkic languages, we drew attention to the similarity
in the use of geographical terms and suffixes in names. The general historical features preserved
in toponyms from the ancient Turkic language to the present day led to this study. The article
studies the use of Turkic geographical terms in ancient and modern Turkic languages, explains the
common features. The purpose of the article is to identify common features and peculiarities of
toponyms in the Kazakh and ancient Turkic languages, as well as to identify common aspects of
toponyms in Turkic dialects. For this reason, geographical names were compared and studied.
