Reflection of the problem of drug addiction in world literature

The article highlights the problem of drug addiction in fiction. Characteristic features of the
coverage of the topic of drug addiction in literary texts are analyzed. As the main method of this study the
authors propose a literary analysis of Russian and foreign works, as well as literary and critical essays devoted
to the problem of drug addiction. The world literature has enough works dedicated to the problem of drug addiction, which describe the
impact of drugs on human life, depicting the collapse of the personality of a person who uses drugs, his values,
the loss of morality.
The article presents the problem of drug addiction as a global problem of catastrophic proportions. It is
intended to reflect the dangers of drug addiction to both the individual and to humanity as a whole. The main
function of literary works on the topic under study is expressed in the formation of a stable belief in the reader
about the harm of drugs and their social and societal danger.
Thus, the pragmatics of this article is expressed in the fact that by the example of the analysis of literary
characters and their addiction to the use of drugs, to lead the reader to the realization of the essence of drug
addiction and to form a stable negative personal attitude to the global problem of drug addiction
