This article describes the ethnolinguistic nature of loanwords in Codex cumanicus, an artifact of medieval writing. Medieval written monuments are a source of valuable information that broadly reflects the spiritual, cultural, world outlook and way of life of the Turkic peoples. The study of this linguistic phenomenon is one of the urgent problems in language science. The conclusions of foreign and domestic Turkologists are taken as a basis. It is natural that from historical processes and extralinguistic influences in society there is an expansion, merging, unification of the meaning of a word, depending on the specifics of its use. Based on the analysis, the names of positions and units related to legal-administrative, military vocabulary in the Codex Cumanicus notebook were identified.
The study of written artifacts from linguistic, cognitive, historical, and philosophical points of view has been conducted in world Turkology for a long time. For centuries, the language has kept all its wealth in the depths of history and passed it on to future generations as an amanat. From this point of view, the main goal is to consider the use of words in the linguistic composition of Codex Cumanicus in its era, and to establish what the field of use of these words is at the present stage.
The conclusions obtained as a result of the research work can be of practical importance when compiling a dictionary of Turkic words.
