The article is devoted to analyzing the relevance of teaching “General Linguistics” within the higher education system and justifying this discipline as the scientific and theoretical foundation of linguistics. The results of the analysis and the conclusions presented in the study allow for an assessment of the role that disciplines forming the scientific and theoretical base play in developing the scientific and cognitive potential of students. In the modern higher education system, the need to prioritize educational quality is evident in order to present an effective concept for training specialists. The content of the “General Linguistics” discipline includes critical scientific information, such as the stages of the formation and development of linguistics as a distinct scientific field, along with its methods, techniques, and scientific paradigms. As such, this discipline serves as a fundamental knowledge system that enhances students' scientific and cognitive potential in the field of linguistics.
The main purpose of the article is to determine the relevance of teaching “General Linguistics” in the higher education system as a scientific and theoretical foundation of linguistics, and to systematize the key issues that should be addressed in this area.
