Abstract

The article is devoted to the etymological basis of toponyms in the trans-border region of Western Kazakhstan. The great importance is the disclosure of the etymological foundations of cross-border toponyms in the creation of the history of our people, the designation of the regions of habitation. The meaning of toponyms that have been preserved since ancient times has become incomprehensible, vague, and forgotten for many. For this purpose, the motives of origin and etymological grounds of some toponyms used in the regions were determined. The importance of toponyms can be expressed from different angles. First, the naming of toponyms involves various stages. They are based on information from the history, culture, knowledge, and worldview of our people. Secondly, there are language data that indicate the path passed by the people, the place of residence. The only tool that conveys information about the Turkic people scattered around the world is toponyms. This data was created by our ancestors, lived together and remained on the stage of history with vitality. Of course, in the depths of history, not a few things are forgotten or have acquired a new look, acquired a different character and were named differently. However, the truth of the actual data must be recognized, and this is very important. Therefore, cross-border toponyms are of great importance in the creation of the history of our people, in the designation of regions of habitation. It is known that recently we have begun to pay attention to the etymology of toponyms, the meaning of which has become somewhat forgotten due to various research works. There is a variety of opinions on the history of origin, origins, and meanings of ancient toponyms. This probably indicates that it is much more difficult to reveal the etymology of place names in the lexical fund than in other words. Although a number of toponyms are defined in relation to some regions, districts, the names of land and water zones in cross-border regions are not completely written down.
