This article examines the works of foreign literature of the mid XIX century and the beginning
of the twentieth century that have been little studied in Russian philological science, the subject of which
have become the life and teachings of Muhammad. It is asserted that almost for the first time the image of
the legendary person was presented on the principle of reasonableness and justice, which became possible
due to the culture of the New Time. Based on the results of the study of selected historical and philosophical
works, the author’s conclusions are drawn.
