The article presents the category of evaluation, which is an important and relevant
topic of scientific research of linguists. Evaluation is a complex action produced by the consciousness
of the subject in the perception and processing of information about the outside world. Evaluation is the
most important component of cognitive processes, in many cases it is the evaluative qualification that
completes the knowledge of the new reality of reality and its inclusion in the sphere of a person’s vital
interests. Evaluation activity as a way for a speaker to express his attitude to the realities of his surrounding
reality is considered as the most important aspect of a person’s communicative activity, evaluation is an
extremely significant pragmatic signal that largely organizes the structure of a speech act. We consider
nouns with attitudinal meaning as a result of word-formation processes, namely, semantic derivation.
The evaluative aspect of the meaning of derivative words is formed using the cognitive mechanisms of
metaphor and metonymy. An analysis of empirical material has allowed the creation of a rating scale that
defines evaluative categorization
