This article reviews some of the conflicting views in sources about the 13th-century Persian-Turkish
poet of Khorasan origin, fahih, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic Jalal-ud-Din Rumi. For example, there are compared and analyzed information on the year and place of Rumi’s birth, the reasons for the family’s
migration to the West, his origins, and relations with the Mongols. The main sources in Rumi Studies are Rumi’s
Masnawi, Diwan-i Kabir, Fiki Ma Fih, Majilis-i Saba, Makalat by Shams Tebrizi, and Ibtidaname by Rumi’s son
Sultan Walad, «Risale-i Sipehsalar Manakib-i Khudaundigar» by Feridun-i Sipehs murid his children, «Manakib
