As educational priorities shift toward personal values, worldview formation, and spiritual growth, Kazakh language and literature play an important role in introducing students to national culture, strengthening language competence, and developing aesthetic appreciation. Literature is presented as a means of fostering artistic thinking, creativity, and personal development. The article also emphasizes the teacher’s role in shaping students’ worldview through effective literary education. Particular attention is given to the pedagogical legacy of the distinguished Kazakh educator and methodologist Kanipa Bitibayeva. Her contribution to improving the methodology of teaching Kazakh literature and her influence on the development of the national education system are analyzed. The study highlights the originality of her innovative teaching approach based on the philosophy of “Stimulating Thought, Reflection, and Thinking” («Oй тастау, ойланту, ойлау»). These methods encourage active learning, independent thinking, and meaningful engagement with literary texts. The study concludes that Bitibayeva’s methodological innovations enhance students’ cognitive activity, support the assimilation of national spiritual values, and promote the development of creative thinking.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Yessenova kalbike.yesenova@bk.ru F.K. Ismailova ismailova.f@uib.kz
This paper examines the linguo‑pragmatic functions of periphrasis in Kazakh literary discourse and media discourse. Periphrasis is treated as an indirect descriptive naming strategy with strong nominative, expressive‑evaluative and euphemistic potential. The study aims to compare how periphrastic units are used in fiction and in journalistic texts and to identify their mechanisms of pragmatic influence on the addressee. The scholarly value of the research lies in approaching periphrasis not only as a stylistic trope that embellishes speech, but also as a discourse‑strategic, text‑forming and persuasive device. Its practical value is linked to media‑text editing, text interpretation, and the teaching of stylistics and media linguistics. Methodologically, the article follows an interpretive functional approach. Еxamples selected from Kazakh prose and periodical media texts are analysed through contextual reading, pragmatic interpretation, comparative description and functional classification. The findings show that aesthetic imagery and psychological characterisation dominate in literary discourse, whereas media discourse amplifies attention‑drawing, evaluative, euphemising, cliché‑forming and potentially manipulative functions. The study therefore clarifies the cross‑discursive nature of periphrasis and contributes to systematising secondary nomination patterns in contemporary Kazakh media language.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. The aim of the research is to investigate the linguocultural field of the ethnocultural connotation associated with the mythophytonym “baiterek” in Kazakh fairy tales. The relevance of the study is explained by the lack of specialized research examining the ethnocultural connotation of “baiterek” through Kazakh fairy-tale material. The article identifies the ethnocultural features, historical-linguistic context, and linguocultural field of the mythophytonym “baiterek” in fairy-tale narratives, and analyzes them using concrete examples selected from Kazakh tales. In the course of the research, methods such as collection, systematization, description, analysis, and comparison of linguistic data were used. As a result, the ethnocultural connotation and the linguocultural field of the mythophytonym “baiterek” were identified and structured as follows: “Baiterek – a tall tree / poplar”, “Baiterek – strength, height, shelter”, “Baiterek – support (pillar, reliance), protection, refuge, nest”, “Baiterek – a connector between the upper, middle, and lower worlds”, and “Baiterek – continuity of generations, genealogy”. The article contributes to a deeper understanding of theoretical and practical issues in the modern fields of linguistic folklore studies, cultural linguistics, ethnolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, and related disciplines within Kazakh linguistics.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Dalmukhanova feruza.dalmukhanova@yu.edu.kz
For the first time, this study reveals the cognitive nature of the concepts “life” and “death” in Nurlan Kosymbayev’s poetry, as well as the content of linguistic units and individual frames. Based on the poet’s works, philosophical reflections on life and death within the national worldview are systematized and explored. The analysis of the “life” and “death” concepts provides new opportunities for research in linguistics, particularly in cognitive linguistics, ethnolinguistics, and linguocultural studies. The main goal of the research is to analyze the concepts “life” and “death” in N. Kosymbayev’s poetry and to identify the features of their usage and semantic scope within poetic texts. Conceptual analysis allows the identification of semantic, cognitive, and cultural aspects of the notions of “life” and “death,” serving as an important source of information for the study of linguistic consciousness and cultural codes. Findings of the study and conceptual analyses can be applied in specialized courses and seminars on cognitive linguistics and ethnolinguistics, as they serve as practical materials for developing conceptual thinking and enhancing the ability to analyze linguistic and cultural phenomena. Furthermore, this research demonstrates the interconnection between literary studies and linguistics and allows a deeper understanding of conceptual and lexical structures in poetic texts.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Kulmanova kulmanov@msu.edu
This study delves into the linguocultural features of the terms "debt" and "obligation" in Kazakh and English cultural models. It investigates how debt and obligation as concepts are built on the basis of anchoring moral values, social practices, and local history, particular to the specific culture. Despite debt and obligation being universal concepts, their meanings demonstrate extreme cultural specificity and represent various worldviews and moral requirements. Qaryz (debt) and paryz (obligation) in Kazakh tradition are very tightly connected with collective identity, social solidarity, and robust family and neighborhood bonds. They are the pillars of social norms of solidarity, generosity, and communal harmony.

In contrast, in English-speaking cultures, debt and obligation can be equated with personal responsibility, legal obligation, and contractual duty. English language terminology is individualistic in nature, putting stress on personal duty, rights, and autonomy rather than collective duty. This current study uses comparative semantic and contextual analysis to explore how such culturally embedded models are encoded in language and how they influence behavior and expectations in interpersonal relationships across various sociocultural contexts. The results enhance our knowledge of cross-cultural communication and the role of language in representing moral and social norms.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Nassyritdinova asemgul_kazatu@mail.ru
Fundamental research in modern linguistics aimed at identifying the grammatical features of text and context has opened up broad opportunities for understanding the functional potential of linguistic units. Within the textual space, all elements—from minimal phonetic units to complex lexico-grammatical forms—interconnect as components of a unified system. From this perspective, this article comprehensively analyzes the text-forming role of the apposition and its relationship with other fundamental linguistic patterns.

The study systematizes the use of appositions within independent sentences, scientifically determining their transforming stylistic role. It is argumentatively proven that within context, these syntactic constructions extend beyond their traditional qualifying function, playing an exceptional role in actualizing subjective-modal meanings and authorial intention based on empirical data. The author examines the pragmatic function of grammatical appositions in close integration with modality, emotional-expressive coloring, evaluation categories, intertextual links, and precedent uses.

The analysis demonstrates that subjective modality manifested through appositions reveals the complex nature of this category at functional, pragmatic, and cognitive levels. The work's main scientific value lies in substantiating that the apposition is a vital communicative tool ensuring textual semantic integrity and conveying the author's position, thereby solving urgent problems in syntax, stylistics, and text linguistics.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Nurdaulet pnurdaulet1984@mail.ru G.A. Sarseke sarseke_ga@enu.kz А. Maulet mr.ardabi@mail.ru
This article examines the nature, functions, and role of cultural symbols and linguistic signs in the national consciousness within an interdisciplinary linguocultural perspective, based on Kazakh kuy legends. Combining a rich folkloric heritage with narrative material, the study focuses on the semiotic interrelations between kuy legends and musical texts. Cultural symbols and linguistic signs in Kuy legends are mutually related concepts closely connected to the nation’s worldview, akin to twin strands within the inner fibre of tone. A linguocultural analysis makes it possible to reveal the semiotic structure of the legends, their cognitive depth, and their social functions. Not only within kuy legends but across folkloric texts in general, symbols and linguistic units complement one another to form complex semantic structures. The novelty of this work lies in its status as one of the first scholarly articles to provide an in-depth analysis of cultural symbols and linguistic signs in kuy legends within the interdisciplinary field of linguocultural studies. The research offers important data and reflections on the mutual influence of language and culture in the formation of folkloric text. By integrating linguistic analyses with cultural interpretation, it delineates the mechanisms through which language and culture intersect in the context of kuy legends. The findings underscore the significance of a linguocultural methodology for research on folklore and kuy legends and contribute to a systematic understanding of the multidimensional, multilayered, and complex relationships among language, culture, and folklore.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Through a meticulous analysis, the interpretive roles of articles were explored from three distinct perspectives. Firstly, the research study has found that articles have a very important role in disambiguating the syntactical meaning of nouns. Secondly, it is clear from the study that articles have a very important role in the coherent construction of messages, which helps in the clarity and coherence of communication. Moreover, the study has also shown that articles have an important role in articulating and signifying the connection between linguistic constructs and the external world. These very interesting findings have provided a lot of support to the initial hypothesis proposed at the beginning of the study. This hypothesis states that articles have a very important role in defining the content of communication and cannot be studied independently in the context of syntactical and semantic relationships. The present study proceeds from the assumption that the English article constitutes a meaningful and functionally independent grammatical element whose role cannot be reduced to a purely formal marker of the noun.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. The study aims to identify the structural system and lexical-semantic features of Qaratau oikonyms by examining their formation methods and semantic properties to reveal patterns in regional toponym development. Oikonyms are linguistic units used to name geographical objects, reflecting local worldview, historical events, attitudes toward nature, and cultural experience. The study identifies synthetic (affixal), analytical (compounding and word combinations), and lexical-semantic word-formation methods in the creation of oikonyms. Semantic analysis further classifies them into names with physical-geographical, historical-ethnographic, historical-cultural, and socio-social significance. A combination of research methods was employed, including systematization and classification, structural-semantic analysis, descriptive, and statistical approaches. The research analyzed 188 oikonyms in the region, divided into the following categories: anthropo-oikonyms (based on personal names) – 26; color-based oikonyms – 49; hydrographic – 21; phytonymic – 27; orographic (mountains, hills, ridges, etc.) – 23; and names with socio-economic and social significance – 42. The findings provide a theoretical basis for Kazakh onomastic studies, enrich regional linguistic cartography and linguocultural analysis, and reveal the historical, cultural, and social value of Qaratau oikonyms.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. The study analyzes the transition from the traditional realist model of character to postmodern complex and fragmented images, identifying the historical and cultural factors behind this process. The theoretical foundations of the simulacrum-character concept are explored through structuralist, poststructuralist, and postmodern approaches. Based on the works of Kazakh writers A. Altai, A. Kemelbayeva, and D. Zhylkybay, the article focuses on the artistic features and semantic functions of magical realist, mythological, and technogenic characters, including Qonyrqaz, Besarys (Centaur), and Abyl Robot.

The study demonstrates that simulacrum-characters reflect the spiritual condition of Kazakh society, as well as the crisis and renewal of national identity during the decolonization period. Through such images, changes in the concept of literary reality, new forms of interaction between author and character, and stronger intertextual connections become evident. Simulacrum-characters are interpreted as artistic representations of shifting values and changing identity in contemporary society. Their instability, ambiguity, and blurred boundaries between reality and imagination reveal key aesthetic tendencies in modern Kazakh prose. The purpose of the study is to determine the genre nature of the work, the narrator’s position, the relationship between documentary and artistic elements, as well as the functions of focalization and chronotope. The narrative is based not only on the presentation of historical information, but also on its selection, comparison, interpretation, and evaluation. The narrator acts as a researcher guiding the reader’s historical perception. The use of the authorial “we,” rhetorical questions, argumentation, and comments on doubtful or lost information strengthens the metanarrative character of the text. The composition is structured not around a classical plot, but around the gradual disclosure of a historical problem. Documentary material, interpretation, and artistic devices form an integrated narrative structure. According to the authors, the legends associated with Muztau, Rakhman Springs, Markaköl, and other landmarks possess significant potential to guide tourists not only toward the region’s natural sites but also into the historical and philosophical worldview of the Kazakh people.

The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that, to date, the folkloric and literary heritage of East Kazakhstan has not been systematically examined as a resource for the region’s tourism sector: concrete examples of its application, quantitative and qualitative indicators, as well as theoretical and methodological analyses, remain largely unaddressed. Drawing on recent international scholarship, the authors aim to assess the possibilities of integrating local legends into selected cultural and educational tourist routes officially established in East Kazakhstan. This research direction aligns with contemporary processes of the applied revitalization and reinterpretation of the nation’s spiritual heritage.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Nurgali nurgalik1@mail.ru Yu.V. Bogdanova ukis82@mail.ru
Over two centuries, the theme of the homeland in Russian poetry has undergone a remarkable transformation. In the 19th century, it was presented primarily through a romantic lens: delight, idealisation, and patriotic feeling. By our time, the picture has become dramatically more complex. Today’s authors write about the homeland differently — their works contain both love and bitterness, memory of the tragic pages of the past, and an attempt to embrace the country's inner diversity. The conversation about one's native land becomes deeply personal, almost confessional. The paper shows how the succession of historical eras, social upheavals and new aesthetic demands gradually reshaped the poetic optics. Stable images (river, village, monument) and motifs — from bright pastoral to aching anxiety — are identified. Through the prism of collective memory, these elements form a durable semantic framework of Russian lyric poetry. An analysis of contemporary texts reveals an interesting trend: the image of the homeland increasingly becomes an arena of confrontation between tradition and innovation, the personal and the universal. Poetry, it turns out, not only preserves memory but constantly reworks it, not allowing our ideas about ourselves to become ossified. This perspective opens up new facets in what would seem to be long-studied material.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. Tanzharikova Alua1973@mail.ru
The article analyzes national spirit, historical consciousness, and personal transformation in contemporary Kazakh prose through the archetypal structures and artistic system of A. Alakanyly’s short stories «Ter tamǵan zher» and «Aýyl». The study aims to determine the conceptual foundations of the writer’s poetics by applying artistic-aesthetic and literary-theoretical analysis to themes of national existence, historical memory, and spiritual renewal. The research focuses on the dialectics of historical time and subjective consciousness, the archetypal correlation between national memory and spatial imagery, and the artistic representation of tradition and transformation. Particular attention is given to the unity of space and time, the symbolic system, and psychological characterization as key mechanisms for reconstructing national identity and reviving historical awareness.

Methodologically, the study employs structural, semantic, and poetic analysis. Archetypal analysis reveals the symbolic interconnection between memory and space, while the chronotopic approach clarifies the artistic function of temporal and spatial categories. Symbolic interpretation and psychological-poetic portraiture are used to examine the character’s inner evolution.

The findings demonstrate that in «Ter tamǵan zher» and «Aýyl» the interaction of historical time and subjective consciousness, existential tension, and spiritual rebirth is conveyed through a coherent symbolic and chronotopic structure.

The article proposes a methodological model for exploring national identity through literary texts and advances the study of national poetics, the national spirit, and historical consciousness in contemporary Kazakh prose.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Sharip sharipamantay@gmail.com
This article investigates the genesis, common origins, and genre transformation of the concept “öleñ”, a cornerstone of Turkic poetics extant in various phonetic forms (өлең, o'lan, өлөң, үләң, өләң, öleñ, üleñ). The study aims to transcend narrow regional interpretations to systematize the lexeme’s functional role in pan-Turkic oral tradition and unify the corresponding conceptual framework The empirical basis encompasses the folklore of Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Uyghur, Turkmen, Tatar, Bashkir, and Sakha peoples. Employing a multidisciplinary approach, the research utilizes comparative-historical, genetic, etymological, and structural-semantic analyses. It verifies hypothesis tracing the term to Old Turkic roots ula- (‘to connect”) or ül-/öl- (“to measure”), suggesting that the category originally signified the imposition of rhythmic order upon chaos. By comparing the Sakha олоҥхо and Bashkir өләң, the author posits that the term was initially linked to heroic epics before ivolving into a lyrical-ritual genre. The study identifies universal features of wedding song traditions across Turkic ethnicities and highlights the syncretic nature of “öleñ” (the unity of word, music, and performance) and its dialogic form (aitys). Ultimately, “öleñ” is characterized as a shared cultural code of the Turkic world, fasilitating the reconstuction of its poetic heritage.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N. Matygulova aliya_kaz@mail.ru J. Coşkun jalezaman@aydin.edu.tr S.Zh. Tazhibayeva tazhibaeva_szh@enu.kz
This article examines the features of translating a documentary novel. This topic is raising as the number of publications, materials, articles, and films of the documentary genre has been growing. A documentary novel belongs to a special literary genre, based on real events. Translating a documentary novel is a complex work, where the translator needs knowledge of not only the original language and the target language, but also deep knowledge of historical data and the ability to convey this data in simple words without distortion. The research is aimed at studying the features of the reflection of historical reality and national and cultural specifics in the translation into English of M. Shayakhmetov's documentary novel "The Silent Steppe". Translation of such texts into other languages, in particular into Russian and English, is a complex task associated with the need to preserve historical authenticity, convey cultural specificity, as well as stylistic and emotional features of the original. It is important not only to convey the factual content, but also to adapt nationally specific realities, terms and images in such a way that they become understandable to representatives of another culture, without losing their authentic sound.
2026-06-30T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Bulletin of L.N.
